What is an insurance auto glass endorsement or glass waiver?

By law ARS 20-264, Arizona is one of the few states that are mandated to a offer a separate auto glass endorsements or glass waivers with any comprehensive policy. Typically, this auto glass waiver or endorsement is offered at a low premium cost (regulated by the Arizona Department of Insurance) such as $5 to $15 extra a  month. What this means is that you can have a comprehensive deductible for collision of say $250 or $500 and have an added “glass endorsement or waiver” with a deductible of $0. So really, having the added insurance glass endorsement on your policy can pay for itself after just one windshield replacement with us.

How do I know if I have comprehensive auto glass insurance coverage?

You can check your policy and see if you have anything written on your declarations page that reads waiver or endorsement.  Auto glass endorsements/waivers are only available to individual’s whom carry comprehensive coverage not liability coverage.  Typically, individuals carry comprehensive auto coverage on their policy when their car is leased or they are still making payments to the bank for their automobile. Often individuals that own older vehicles and have already paid off their car loans will only carry liability insurance at a lower premium cost. Check your own auto insurance policy for more detailed coverage information. Or, give us a call directly and we will call your insurance company and check coverages with you. Worst case scenario, you learn about your coverages and we can give you a low cost no obligation estimate for the replacement or repair.

When I check my deductible or when I inquire about a claim for a car windshield, will that cause my rates to be raised?

No. When you inquire from your insurance company about the coverage they provide then it is usually not taken to be a claim. In addition, by law, insurance companies cannot raise your rates for auto glass claims. However, if you report your claim to get coverage verification and you do not have glass coverage your insurance company will note that you told them your glass was broken. Therefore, your insurance company will require that you pay for your broken windshield before you can add the auto glass replacement endorsement or waiver.

What if I don’t have auto glass insurance coverage and I have a broken windshield, can I just add it to my policy and wait a few months to have it replaced?

Possibly but not ethical.  Some insurance companies now require that you submit a picture of your windshield or will require an inspection before adding this coverage.

Are there any special offerings for auto glass claims?

Yes. We give $50 Cash Back with any insurance windshield replacement claim. If you have a comprehensive policy with the auto glass endorsement or waiver then we will give you $50 CASH at the time of service.  You do not have to wait; the cash is yours immediately after the completion of the job unlike other auto glass shops.

With your auto glass insurance program of $50 cash back, is my insurer up-charged?

Definitely not. We honor all contract pricing of all insurers and there will never be any additional costs out-of-pocket for your insurance company or you. In fact, we are a preferred auto glass shop for all major insurance companies including; Allstate, Farmers, Geico, USAA, American Family, and Liberty Mutual.

Do insurance companies cover the windshield chip repair costs?

Most companies would rather waive any deductible and have the windshield repaired rather than have it replaced since the cost is considerably less for a chip repair. Therefore, if you carry a comprehensive insurance policy regardless if you have a glass waiver or endorsement on your policy, most insurance companies will cover the full cost of the repair. So, if you have comprehensive coverage with a $500 deductible and your windshield is in repairable condition (up to the size of a credit card) than your insurance company will waive your deductible if the repair is successful. State Farm is the only insurance company (now) that requires you to have the glass waiver or endorsement on your policy for them to cover the cost of the windshield chip repair.

Will my insurer be covering the original manufacturer equipment Factory/OEM glass?

Sometimes it is possible. Certain insurance companies, cover OEM/Factory glass requests for current automobiles minus a single or couple of years of age. What this means is that if the current year is 2016 the coverage will be from 2014 to 2016. In any case Glas Tek will try to have it covered from your insurer or otherwise give you all your options.

How do I know who manufactured my automobile windshield?

According to FMVSS, all windshields that are manufactured and sold in the United States must contain the manufacturing plant details on the windshield including a Department of Transportation (DOT) code. Typically, this DOT code is called a windshield “bug” and is located on the bottom of all car windshields. You can get this DOT code from your car windshield and enter into the glassBYTES/AGRR database to find out who manufactured your particular windshield.

What happens when my agent or insurance company is recommending to me their “preferred” company for a auto glass replacement?

You need to remember that by law you have every right (by AZ law) to select any auto glass repair shop that you desire. Many times, the agent or insurer has a “financial affiliation” with their “preferred” repair facility and it is them whom receive the benefits in the form of kickbacks, gift cards, lunches and discounts, and not you. We on the other hand, honor and  accept all insurance rates, honor all contract pricing, do not up-charge, provide free chip repairs, come to you and offer a  nationwide lifetime warranty. In addition, we are also a preferred auto glass shop that your insurance company will verify. The difference here is YOU, YOU get all the benefits and $50 CASH on the SPOT! This is a WIN-WIN situation for you!

What happens when I have only liability coverage?

Insurance companies do not offer auto glass endorsements on liability coverage. This type of coverage only protects the other vehicle in case of an accident. Therefore, auto glass replacement or repair will need to be paid out of pocket.  However, you have come to the right place! We offer super competitive windshield replacement and auto glass prices that come with free lifetime rock chip repairs, nationwide warranty, and free valleywide mobile service.

Will my insurance company waive my deductible for a windshield chip repair?

There is a good chance as a most insurance companies waive deductibles and pay for the full windshield chip repair. For instance if you have a comprehensive deductible of $50 to $1000, and the windshield is repairable then your insurer will cover the full repair cost. You will find an exception to this practice, when you consider the company policy of State Farm. This insurance provider will only cover the repair cost, if your policy has the glass endorsement or glass waiver added yo your policy as mentioned earlier.

What if my deductible is high?

When you have $250 or above as your deductible then usually the cost for a glass replacement will be lower than that amount. In such a case it is advisable to pay the amount yourself rather than claim it on your insurance. So get a low cost, no obligation, free windshield replacement price today! We accept all major credit cards, debit cards and cash.

Are you aware that as per Arizona law ARS 20-264 the policyholder should be given an option of auto glass replacement coverage in full without deductible? What this means is, you have a choice of paying a small premium and purchasing coverage for auto glass with no deductible. Usually the additional cost will be only between $5 to 15 every month and is quite worth it. Luckily among the states, Arizona is one of the few which offers this type of coverage.

If I have comprehensive coverage with the auto glass replacement endorsement or waiver what glass is covered on my car by my insurance company?

All glass on your car including the back glass, quarter glass, vent glass, door glass, windshield, sun roof, side glass, and even mirrors are covered sometimes.

Can my insurance provider make me repair my windshield rather than have it replaced?

No, they cannot force you, but they will prefer you repair as the repairing will save time and money and also keep the original seal of the factory intact. When the size of the repair of the windshield is less than a dollar bill, it is strongly recommended by the insurance company to have it repaired and not replaced.

Will my insurer want to make an inspection of the damage before you replace my car windshield?

Some of the insurance companies do want to, and a few of them require an inspection done randomly before they authorize the shop to go ahead with their work. Such companies include Geico, USAA and American Family. If your inspection is randomly chosen then the company sends an insurance inspector/adjuster to verify the location and extent of the damage to the glass. Once the verification is complete we are authorized to proceed with the work. The only problem is that this could delay the installation or repair of your glass.

What details will the insurance company ask when I make a claim?

The insurance company will do a verification of your identity, collect information about the claim, do coverage verification and then give authorization to the windshield replacement shop that you have selected to get the work done. For more info visit our auto glass program page for a full list of questions that your insurance company representative will ask when opening a windshield claim.

How much time is spent to report a claim?

Usually the full process should not take more than a 15 minutes which includes reporting the claim, verifying your insurance coverage and scheduling your convenient mobile appointment.

What happens when there is a deductible on my insurance policy?

First you need to make sure that the representative of the insurance company is not confusing your comprehensive deductible with your glass endorsement or glass waiver deductible. Often times, unfamiliar out of state insurance representatives will look at your policy and tell you your comprehensive deductible without knowing that you have the auto glass endorsement with a $0 deductible on your policy. So, be sure that you are real clear to your representative that you want to know if you carry AUTO GLASS REPLACEMENT COVERAGE and not your comp/coll coverage.  Most Arizona comprehensive policies carry an auto glass waiver or endorsement because of the low cost premium.

When you have a deductible which is as high as $250 then the cost of glass could be lower. In such a case you might want to get an auto glass replacement price for comparison. If your cost is going to be less than the deductible, then it advisable that you do not make a claim. This also helps in “saving” a claim from appearing on your policy.

If your deductible is up to $50 we can waive it for you in lieu of our $50 cash back offer.

My window has a tint which is aftermarket, can this be replaced?

Yes. Insurers will cover the cost of reapplication of the aftermarket tint and you are lucky because Glas Tek can help with that as well.
